Driver privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information the Bakkie Hire Driver app collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to drivers who register and use the app. Customers, see the customer privacy policy.
Information we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, phone number, and password.
- Driver registration details: full name, surname, ID number, home address, the type of bakkie you drive, and vehicle details (make, model, registration, colour, year, VIN).
- Driving licence: photos of the front and back of your licence card, and the licence number and expiry date read from it.
- Vehicle licence disc: a photo of the disc, and the registration, VIN, make, model, colour and expiry date read from its barcode.
- Other documents and photos you upload: your ID document, a photo of your vehicle, and a profile photo.
- Camera: the app uses your camera only when you photograph a document or scan your licence disc. The text on your licence card is read on your phone, then the photos are uploaded.
- Location: while the app is open and you have granted permission, we use your device’s precise location to show delivery jobs near you and to confirm you are close enough to a pickup when you accept a job. We do not track your location in the background.
- Technical data needed to keep you signed in, such as an authentication token stored securely on your device.
How we use your information
- To create and manage your driver account and registration.
- To review and approve your application to drive on the platform.
- To show you nearby jobs and let you accept and complete deliveries.
- To offer you only jobs that need the type of bakkie you drive.
- To check that your driving licence and licence disc are valid, remind you before they expire, and suspend your account when either expires until we have checked the renewed document.
- To contact you about your account, a job, or support requests.
Expiry reminders
The app schedules notifications on your phone before your driving licence or licence disc expires. They are created on your device from the dates on file; you can turn them off in your phone’s notification settings.
Biometric sign-in
If you enable fingerprint or face unlock, that check is performed by your device. We never receive or store your biometric data.
Sharing
We share your information with Bakkie Hire and the service providers that host the platform so the app can work. Limited details (such as your name and vehicle) may be shown to a customer for a job you have accepted. We do not sell your personal information.
Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and for as long as we are required to for legal, tax, or safety reasons. When you delete your account we remove your profile, driver registration, and uploaded documents, except where we must retain records to comply with the law.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account at any time from Profile > Delete account. This permanently removes your account, driver registration, and uploaded documents. You can also request deletion online or by email:
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us at support@bakkie-hire.co.za to make a request.
